Fundraising and merger of bluenove

bluenove raises $1.9 million (US) and merges with the Canadian pioneer of collective intelligence

This fundraising marks the birth of a French leader in the field of managerial transformation related to Open Innovation and Collective Intelligence.

Paris, Montréal, October 21, 2014 – bluenove, France’s leading consultancy in Open Innovation, announces its merger with the Canadian startup Clouds, a pioneer in collective intelligence through its software (Assembl) and its creation of the collaborative platform Imagination for People. The merger was carried out with the support of the labor-sponsored fund, Fondaction who invested $1.9 million Canadian (1.34 million euros). The new entity bluenove Group will operate from Paris and Montréal with a team of 35 consultants and developers.

“bluenove Group became the first consulting firm in open and collaborative innovation to integrate a software solution designed to support collective intelligence online for groups of several thousand people,” said Martin Duval, President & COO of the new company, bluenove Group. “In an environment where open innovation broadens the scope of innovation for businesses and their stakeholders, both internal and external, Assembl enables bluenove to anticipate these managerial changes and to offer clients a real solution for collaboration and innovation on a very large scale.”

Funds raised in support of R&D and international growth

Following this merger the new group intends to:

  • Allow continued technological development of the Assembl software through the integration of complimentary bricks and interoperability with leading corporate social networks
  • Develop new Open Innovation services through global expert sourcing of people with atypical expert profiles via an innovative algorithm
  • Begin a process of international consolidation through acquisitions or strategic alliances in the market of open and collaborative innovation

“Through our strategic partnerships with leading international organizations, our ambition is to stay at the forefront of new developments in collaborative and open innovation in order to help our clients implement best practices in the corporate world, the public sector and civil society,” said Frank Escoubès, Executive Chairman of bluenove Group. “Our hybrid model is based on a cross between dedicated applications (collective intelligence, prediction markets, smartsourcing unconventional experts, etc.) and the consulting expertise of the board at bluenove (managing innovative communities, organizing idea challenges, detecting start-ups, etc.). This positioning allows us to participate directly in solving the most inspiring strategic problems within companies and communities.”

“We are delighted to be providing the support of Fondaction to bluenove, a company that, since its creation in 2008, has become a leading consultancy and service provider in Open Innovation. We are also delighted to be enabling bluenove’s coupling with Assembl’s technological roadmap in the field of collective intelligence,” says Stephan Morency, Principal Portfolio Director at Fondaction. “bluenove Group will now be able to expand globally with new business models, new skills, and new services for international business leaders and innovative public institutions.”
